Greg lives in the Flathead Valley. He went on his first backpacking trip at the age of fourteen. Later, still a teenager, he learned to pack stock and discovered riding a horse with lots of stuff is easier than carrying all the stuff on his back. Over the years his miles of horsepackikng in Montana's backcountry, especially the Bob Marshall Wilderness have accumulated into the thousands. He loves his horses.
Greg is a leader and a teacher to the younger generation. He is an officer with the Flathead Chapter of Back Country Horsemen of Montana, is chair of the Back Country
Horsemen of Montana Youth Program, has served on the board of the Bob Marshall Foundation and on the Council of the Montana Wilderness Association.
He is retired from his small business--Greg Schatz Builder, located in Columbia Falls.
Greg has travelled to Mongolia with his wife Deb numerous times to share the values of the love of nature and the joys of riding horses in such an exotic place.
Greg's focus on getting kids outdoors to have fun and learn outdoors skills is a perfect fit for Montana Conservation Elders.
